ACTIVITIES

The Old English Sheepdog Club of Greater Seattle hosts many events for members and friends. Each month, the Board of Directors meets (usually on the 3rd Thursday of the month at 7:00 p.m.) to go over club business. All club members are invited to attend these board meetings. Our General Meeting is held in May and our Annual Meeting is held in July.

Other get-togethers:  From time to time, the board or individual club members may plan events for members and interested people.

ONGOING
Sunny Day GROUP WALKS

Do you have a favorite walk that you and your OES enjoy? Maybe it's a woodland scene - or the streets of a small town. If you would like to share your walk with other club members, please give Gary Faull, our "Walkies" chair, a call. He will help you organize and advertise your "official" walk. We've had groups from five to twenty people (and dogs). Past walks include Alki beach and Gas Works Park. We get lots of stares, and it's good advertising for our Rescue services. There is usually a coffee shop or latte stand on the course, but we can also just stop for a rest. For more information, please call Gary Faull at 509.656.3127 or 206.915.7902 (c). It's a great way to exercise your sheepie - and you!

Our July General meeting is held in conjunction with our annual Herding event. Everyone's OES is present at this meeting where the new club officers are installed and our sheepdogs get to herd real sheep. This meeting is held in Roy, WA, where there is a sheep herding farm called "Ewe-topia". Check them out on the web at www.ewe-topia.com. It's wonderful to see how our sheepdogs' natural instincts take over, and instead of watching your OES herd children, they actually herd sheep. All OES, from the youngest puppies to our senior dogs, join in the fun. There are show dogs, companion dogs, and dogs that have been rescued into a much better life. Club members bring their OES early in the morning where they first listen to a lecture on what they'll be doing and why. Then, each dog has the opportunity to herd three adult sheep with the herder supervising the activities. Some of the OES take to it in a flash -- others have to be coaxed. After all the dogs have had a chance to show their stuff, certificates are awarded to all successful participants. The sheepdogs settle in for a rest and the club members congregate for our very successful potluck. Most of our potlucks give a prize for the best salad; our herding event potluck is no exception. The food is great -- and healthy! This is always a great day for the sheepdogs and the people. A short general meeting is held to install new officers and board members and the new Board of Directors meet at the end of the day.

SEMINARS Many of the club members have information on history, health, grooming, and behavior of Old English Sheepdogs. Both formal presentations and informal discussions abound when members compare methods on everything from nail clipping to showdog grooming. Has your puppy been chewing glasses, TV remotes, and other valuable objects? Do you need to find out how to teach a puppy or adult dog good manners? Do you need information about local obedience classes? Do you need to know how to build a grooming table? You will find many members willing to help you with almost any problem you have or direct you to a local class. Ask a board member when you think it would be nice to have a get-together on a subject on which you would like more information. Oftentimes, that starts the ball rolling and the board will set up a seminar to cover areas of interest.
